Skipper Wants to Turn Latics' Fortunes on Their Head

OLDHAM Athletic captain Liam Kelly insists that promotion is the target for his side next season.

Latics narrowly avoided relegation during the latest League One campaign, with the team beating the drop with two games to go - despite being eight points adrift from safety at one stage.

The great escape coincided with John Sheridan returning as manager in January, with the team finishing in 17th place on 54 points.

After falling dangerously close to being relegated, Kelly is adamant that can't happen again and wants the team to aim high during the 2016/17 campaign.

"The main thing now is that we continue this form into next season. We can't afford to be in the position we have been this season," he said.

"There is no point in looking at surviving relegation or being mid-table next season as we have shown over recent weeks that we are capable of being near the top and that will be the target. …
