Topeka Police Identify 19-Year-Old Homicide Victim

A 19-year-old man died of injuries he received during a shooting Tuesday night in East Topeka, police confirmed early Wednesday.

Police identified him as Javen Earl Fondren, 19, of Topeka.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. outside a house in the 600 block of S.E. Lawrence.

Police Sgt. Josh Klamm said at the scene Fondren had suffered life-threatening injuries was taken to an area hospital by American Medical Response ambulance.

With the aid of K-9 units, officers were searching near the house for the shooter as of 9:20 p.m.

At 9:35 p.m., Topeka police expanded the crime scene to include the entire 600 block of S.E. Lawrence and required onlookers to move away.

Kevin Green Sr. said he was sitting on the porch next door to the house where the shooting occurred when he heard 10 gunshots. …
