WYCKOFF -- St. Elizabeth School announced Wednesday that it is reducing its teaching assistant and teacher's aide positions from full- to part-time in the upcoming school year, a move the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark said would bring its staffing in line with other parochial schools.

Principal Lynda Wright announced the reductions in a letter to parents, saying they stemmed from a policy change in the archdiocese's Lighting the Way initiative that centralized control over parochial schools two years ago.

She said the school would continue to have a lead teacher and an aide in every elementary and early-childhood classroom, but assistant teachers and aides would become part-time positions.

"Our priority will continue to be, as it always has been, to provide a superior education in a faith-filled nurturing environment," Wright wrote in the letter. …
