Button Agrees McLaren Deal to Extend F1 Career

JENSON Button has been convinced by McLaren to extend his Formula One career into a 17th season.

McLaren have announced that Button will be retained for the 2016 campaign after the Briton decided against calling time on his world championship-winning career at the end of the season. A disillusioned Button, who has scored only six points from 14 races this year, had hinted that he had grown tired of McLaren's lack of competitiveness.

But the 2009 world champion has been convinced by Ron Dennis, the team's chief executive, to continue with them next season. He will also earn a pay hike from the Pounds 7m he earned this term to around Pounds 11m as stated in the two-year contract he signed last December.

The identity of Button's team-mate remains a mystery, with Fernando Alonso saying after last week's Japanese Grand Prix he did not know whether he would be in Formula One next year. …
