N Brown Profits Drop but Revenues Are Up ; Owner of Brands Including Simply Be and Jacamo Report Half Year Profits of Pounds 35m on Sales of Pounds 415m.

PLUS size fashion retailer N Brown remains optimistic of its full- year outlook, despite a fall in profits.

The Manchester-headquartered company, whose brands include Simply Be and Jacamo, said underlying trading pre-tax profit for the six months to August 29, fell 15.9 percent to Pounds 35m, on revenues of Pounds 415m, which was up 4.2 per cent.

Chief executive Angela Spindler said the group will continue to adjust its retail model and the way it operates, transforming the business from direct mail-led to digital first.

"This has been driven by a clear understanding of what customers want, and fuelled by technology," said Angela, pictured. She added: "We are pleased with the performance of our power brands. JD Williams delivered an encouraging performance, as the improvements we are making begin to take effect.

"For example, new customer online penetration increased by 21 percentage points to 74 per cent. …
