IN many ways Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches is the album that defined the Mondays - it is, after all, home to Step On, their huge, baggy cover of John Kongos' 1971 hit single.

But it was also the last time we saw them at their peak for close to two decades.

The story of how the next album, Yes Please, financially ruined Tony Wilson's Factory Records label (as well as kept the Barbados narcotics industry in business) is well reported, and it was a long road back - a 15 year one, in fact, before the studio beckoned again and 2007's Uncle Dysfunktional restarted their career.

Incredibly, we're 25 years on from the release of Pills 'n' Thrills, and this anniversary tour proves why Loose Fit, Kinky Afro, and indeed Step On are still on a lot of people's playlists. …
