NICK Powell played 55 minutes on his comeback as United Under- 21s suffered their first defeat of the season at Norwich.

Kyle Lafferty's stunning 57th minute volley and Jamar Loza's late finish clinched three points for the Canaries at Carrow Road on an otherwise encouraging night for Powell (pictured).

It was his first outing since he suffered a hamstring injury against Everton's reserve side nine months ago and the forward came through the evening unscathed, before he was replaced by striker Marcus Rashford.

Still only 21, Powell's United contract expires at the end of the season and he did not receive a squad number at the beginning of the campaign. In East Anglia, Powell looked leaner than he did during his disastrous stint on loan at Leicester last season and, despite reports he was considering quitting football, his competitive streak was patent during a couple of heated exchanges. …
