Merlin Admits Injury Lay-Off Affected Magic Touch

DAVID Silva says the ankle injury he suffered while playing for Spain in October has seen his form suffer.

The Spanish midfielder, signed from Valencia in 2010 just days after becoming a World Cup winner, started the season superbly but says it's been 'tough" in recent weeks.

"It's been a pretty frustrating period especially when I had a decent start to the season," he said.

"I've just been held back by this ankle injury but hopefully I can get some form back, get fit and be ready to do my bit to help the team. It's been tough."

Silva turned 30 last week but he says his hunger to win trophies remains just as strong.

As a player who relies on his vision and ability to see the game rather than pace, Manuel Pellegrini feels there is no reason he cannot continue to play for a number of years. …
