aCAR full of 'wanted' men was pursued by police for 40 minutes after the driver sped through a red light.

The Ford Ka was pursued by officers through parts of Stalybridge and Oldham during a dramatic chase, which witnesses say involved a dozen police cars and the force helicopter.

Officers began the pursuit when the driver of the small hatchback drove through a red light on Clarence Street in Stalybridge at 12.50pm yesterday.

Squad cars followed the vehicle along A roads for miles before deploying a stinger device. The car was eventually stopped on Old Street at the junction of Stamford Street, in Stalybridge, at 1.30pm.

Officers boxed the maroon car in.

They detained the driver and three passengers who were being held in police custody.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Police said they were already wanted in relation to historic theft offences. …
