Register of Deeds Nioce Files to Seek Re-Election

Incumbent Shawnee County Register of Deeds Becky Nioce, a Republican, filed Thursday to run for re-election.

"I am honored that the people of Shawnee County have placed their confidence in me to safeguard their records over the past three years," Nioce said in a statement. "I will continue to uphold the integrity and trust that is expected from the office of register of deeds."

Nioce, 40, has been register of deeds since June 3, 2013, taking office after Shawnee County Republican precinct committee members voted to appoint her to replace Marilyn Nichols, who resigned from the position for personal reasons. Nioce, whose last name is pronounced "Neo-see," retained the seat by winning the November 2014 election.

Shawnee County's register of deeds is required by law to record and preserve all real estate-related documents for land in the county. The person holding the position is paid $57,500 a year and maintains an office at the county courthouse, 200 S. …
