4 Men Arrested in Theft at Cliffside Pk. Station

CLIFFSIDE PARK -- Four men are accused of stealing about $30,000 in cash and cigarettes worth $21,500 from a gas station last month, police said Wednesday.

The fourth suspect was apprehended Monday, authorities said.

Two of the suspects, Turkay Gelir, 35, and Muhammed Karaali, 19, both of Cliffside Park, were employed at the BP gas station on Gorge Road where the thefts occurred, said Richard Gaito, the borough's police chief.

Gelir, who was arrested Monday in North Bergen, is alleged to have known where the key to the store's safe was kept, had access to a restricted area where the cigarettes were stored, and was familiar with the normal operations of the business, Gaito said.

The theft occurred April 25, the police chief said. The four men also are accused of causing $4,500 worth of damage to the station's system. …
