'We Trusted Staff to Keep Thea Safe'

THE parents of baby Thea have described their pain at having to live with the 'reality' of their daughter's death.

Jane and Paul Gradwell are launching a civil case against University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, including Wythenshawe Hospital.

In a statement they said: "We went into Wythenshawe Hospital excited about the birth and expecting to bring home a healthy baby daughter.

"We trusted the doctors and nurses to look after Thea and keep her safe. Had they done things differently she would still be here with us today and that painful reality is something we now have to try and live with.

"Whilst the coroner highlighted failings at Wythenshawe, we would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff at St Mary's. The exemplary care we received there gave us four days with our beautiful daughter before she passed away and we will hold that precious time in our hearts forever. …
