Carey Harris, the longtime executive director of A+ Schools, will step down from her role at the local education watchdog group at the end of June.

A+ Schools spokesman James Fogarty will serve as interim director while the board looks for a replacement. Ms. Harris, 47, is leaving to run the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission.

"I've been here for almost 13 years, and this opportunity came up, and I felt that it would be a good opportunity for me to get re- energized and create space for new leadership here," she said Friday.

Founded in 2004 to inherit the work of then Mayor Tom Murphy's Commission on Public Education in pushing for reform of Pittsburgh Public Schools, A+ Schools publishes an annual "Report to the Community," which provides a school-by-school breakdown of student performance and other data. …
