THESE pictures show the grim extent of fly-tipping in an alleyway in north Manchester.

Smashed-up cars, rubbish bags and old furniture are just some of the things being constantly dumped on Birchenall Street, Moston.

Residents have said the grassland, located behind a parade of shops on Moston Lane, has been used for fly-tipping for more than 10 years.

In recent weeks, three battered cars have apparently been dumped in the street.

Neighbours have lodged complaints to Manchester council, but claim no effort has been made to clear it or prosecute any offenders. Council bosses say they are investigating and will prosecute anyone they find responsible.

Mike Pattillo, who lives nearby, said: "It is unbelievable and a disgrace. It takes the council more than two weeks to clear it after we complain. …
