Topeka Gets over 10 Inches of Rain over the Past Month

After a dry start to 2016 in Topeka, with only scant precipitation over the first three months, the pace of precipitation has picked up dramatically in the past month.

Brian Barjenbruch, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Topeka, said 9.91 inches of rain had fallen in Topeka between April 17 and mid-morning Monday, May 16.

"Once we got to about the middle of April," Barjenbruch said, "the rain really started coming."

More rain was expected to fall through the remainder of Monday and overnight into Tuesday before it moves out of the area. The next chance for rain comes Thursday.

From Sunday night until 1 p.m. Monday, Topeka had received an official total of 0.55 of an inch of rain, pushing the year-to-date total to 13. …
