Alex Rodriguez won't commit to returning to the Yankees' lineup on Thursday, the first day he's eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list. "I'm not predicting when I'm going to play," said A- Rod, who wants to see how his strained right hamstring responds to a variety of on-field tests. "The next 48 hours will be big."

On Tuesday, Rodriguez took regular batting practice for a second straight day and reported "it felt good. It was a good day [and I'm] looking forward to running the bases [today]," for the first time since exiting a May 3 game at Baltimore.

"I would say the slowing down and starting [around the bases] is the big test," A-Rod said. "And obviously, getting on cleats and making turns."

Manager Joe Girardi remained hopeful of having A-Rod in Thursday's lineup, starting a four-game series at Oakland. …
