BURY, Oldham and Rochdale could soon be playing Celtic and Rangers in ambitious plans laid out by the Football League.

And that could lead to the Old Firm finally joining City and United in the Premier League.

The Football League last night revealed plans for the biggest shake-up in domestic football since the start of the Premier League.

They suggest the creation of four divisions of 20 teams below the top flight, increasing the number of professional clubs from 92 to 100.

At least two would come from the top of the non-League pyramid, but the Football League say the other six could include the Glasgow giants and B teams from Premier League clubs such as City and United.

When asked if the plans could include Celtic and Rangers, Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "We have no fixed view to where those six teams come from. …
