Frank Street Resident Seeks Guardrail to Protect Property

Gary Gerba has been so dogged by unwanted visitors to his property at the top of a dog-leg turn that he has requested Whitehall officials to install a guardrail in his front yard.

He told council members that there have been 15 reported incidents of damage to his Frank Street property caused by vehicles since he bought the house in 1989.

The street begins as a steep grade off Provost Road and turns sharply at the intersection of Greenlee Road.

Although Gerba received permission a number of years ago to install a heavy wooden railing to safeguard his front yard, that barrier was reduced to scrap lumber on Aug. 13 when the driver of an 18-wheeler failed to make the narrow turn.

The driver, who was making his first delivery to Schneider's Dairy a short distance down the street, also did substantial damage to a concrete walkway, Gerba said. …
