Goodwill Manasota is boosting its presence in southern Sarasota County.

The nonprofit thrift-store chain said Wednesday that it plans to transform its Nokomis/Laurel clearance center into a full retail store. The change comes just a day after Goodwill broke ground on a new, 2,000-square-foot donation center at 2250 Bobcat Village Center Road in North Port.

The Nokomis/Laurel clearance center at 2210 N. Tamiami Trail closed on Saturday in order to prepare for its transition, but donations are still being accepted there. A grand re-opening is planned for May 26. The 6,162-square-foot sales floor will offer more than 12,000 pieces of apparel, along with books, electronics and housewares as well as some donated, unused items.
