PICK OF THE DAY CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW BBC1, 7.30pm THE HORTICULTURAL talent show of the year has arrived - all it needs is a green-fingered Simon Cowell and a buzzer, and we'd have ourselves some primetime entertainment. But don't be fooled by the sedate gardens and exhibits, the competition is vigorous, and I reckon every one of those polite contestants would sell their grandmother for that coveted Best Show Garden award.

Coverage of the five-day event (now in its 103rd year) kicks off today from the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. And first up we have Sophie Raworth and Joe Swift giving us an insight into how the show is put together in just three weeks, as well an exclusive first look at the exhibits set to cause a stir.

Just so you know, we're keeping an eye out this week for highlights such as a floral arch to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday, the memorable poppies tribute that featured at The Tower of London, and an acoustic garden inspired by world-leading percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie that will play musical notes to visitors. …
