Teenager Who Assaulted Man and Son Has Prison Term Cut

A TEENAGER who was locked up for a brutal double assault on a father and son after a wedding party has had his sentence cut by top judges.

Anthony Alan O'Neill, 19, of Salisbury Street, Glossop, left the victims unconscious after a savage attack in Henry Street in August 2014. O'Neill had been at a wedding bash at the nearby George Hotel and attacked John Wrigley and his adult son, also John, outside.

He admitted intentional GBH and ABH and was sentenced to seven years' youth detention at Derby Crown Court last September. But today, after an appeal, three senior judges in London said that was too long and cut O'Neill's term to six years at the Court of Appeal.

Mr Justice Gilbart said more allowance should have been made for O'Neill's young age - he was only a week past his 18th birthday at the time. …
