COLUMBUS - A new Ohio law stripping Planned Parenthood clinics of the remaining $1.3 million they receive from the state was placed on hold Monday by a federal judge in Cincinnati at least through June 6.

Michael R. Barrett, a U.S. District Court judge, will now consider whether to make permanent his temporary injunction prohibiting the Ohio Department of Health from enforcing the defunding law, which was to take effect Monday.

"The attorney general will vigorously defend Ohio's right to determine how to allocate its public resources as this case proceeds," said Dan Tierney, spokesman for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.

The court challenge was brought by Planned Parenthood's two Ohio organizations, which together have 28 health center affiliates in the state. …
