Eighth-seeded Mount Olive stunned top-seeded and defending champion Ridgewood, 2-1, in nine innings in North 1, Group 4 softball quarterfinal play at Ridgewood on Wednesday.

Mount Olive scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Ridgewood, the No. 2 team in The Record softball Top 25 rankings, scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but Mount Olive denied the Maroons the tying run to pull off the surprise.

NORTH BERGEN 5, MORRISTOWN 3 (at North Bergen): Senior right- hander Victoria Avella pitched a six-hitter and had two RBI to lift the third-seeded Bruins past the 11th-seeded Colonials.

MORRIS KNOLLS 3, FAIR LAWN 0 (at Fair Lawn): The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles scored one in the third inning and two in the fourth to turn back the fourth-seeded Cutters.


SADDLE BROOK 7, EMERSON 0 (at Saddle Brook): Senior center fielder Vanessa Archibold went 2-for-3 and recorded both the 100th hit of her career and her 50th stolen base this season to lead top- seeded Saddle Brook.

Senior left-hander Taryn DiGiacomo threw a four-hitter, striking out nine and walking one to spark Saddle Brook (25-4).

BUTLER 4, NORTH WARREN 0 (at Butler): Larissa Spellman tossed a four-hitter, struck out 16 and walked two to help the second-seeded Bulldogs defeat the seventh-seeded Patriots.


RIDGEFIELD 4, BREARLEY REG. 1 (at Kenilworth): The fifth-seeded Royals, the defending sectional champions, scored two runs each in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the fourth-seeded Bears.

DAYTON 8, WEEHAWKEN 0 (at Springfield): Angelina Cacioppo had a double, two hits and four RBI and Brianna Koref had a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking five, to move the top-seeded Bulldogs past the ninth-seeded Indians.

HOBOKEN 11, NORTH ARLINGTON 3 (at Hoboken): Marissa Piscal went 3- for-3 with one run scored, a triple and two RBI for North Arlington.


HOLY ANGELS 8, PARAMUS CATHOLIC 3 (at Demarest): Sophomore catcher Laura Pesanello had a two-run triple in the sixth inning to give the Angels a 6-3 lead in a first-round game.

DePAUL 5, MOTHER SETON 2 (at Wayne): The fifth-seeded Spartans defeated the 12th-seeded Setters. …
