Rider Relives the Horrific Moment She Was Hit by Car

A POLICE horse and rider suffered multiple injuries when a driver ploughed into the back of them outside GMP stables on Christmas Eve.

Police horse Steele was hit by a Renault Megane, causing his back legs to buckle, forcing him on to the bonnet of the car and smashing the windscreen.

His rider, Pc Wendy Townley, hit the car and fell to the ground before the horse - weighing three quarters of a tonne - landed on top of her.

Pc Townley said: "We were leaving Hough End with another horse and we pulled out into Mauldeth Road. The road was clear. We got about 50 metres along and then there was just a big bang.

"I just remember sitting on the car bonnet and my head going through the window."

Steele suffered multiple injuries to his legs and back. He was given veterinary treatment and ongoing phyiostherapy. …
