OLDHAM Athletic have suffered a massive blow after John Sheridan left his role as manager to drop down a division and become boss of League Two side Notts County.

Over the past few weeks the 51-year-old has been linked with a move away from Latics, and now his switch to Meadow Lane has been confirmed.

Sheridan only returned as boss of Oldham in January and helped the side avoid relegation, and chairman Simon Corney is disappointed to see him go.

"It is particularly tough for me as John is not only a good manager but also a good friend," he said.

"There are several reasons behind this move and not all will be apparent to everyone, but John goes with my blessing and eternal thanks for his tremendous effort in keeping us in League One last season. …
