Mckeesport Schools Get Grant to Fix Dangerous Intersection

A $175,000 grant from Allegheny County to the McKeesport Area School District will be used to make safety improvements to the intersection near Founders Hall Middle School where two students have been killed in traffic accidents.

Work is expected to begin - and end - this summer at the intersection of O'Neil and Eden Park boulevards in McKeesport. The goal is to improve visibility and to give stronger notice to motorists that they are traveling in a school zone.

Four large, flashing neon "speed of travel" signs will be installed, crosswalks will be straightened and five large lamp posts will be installed to improve visibility at night.

Also, a 25-foot walkway will be created at the nearby high school entrance, curbs will be repaired and curb cuts will be made in compliance with the Americans with Disability Act. …
