Woman Found Dead Hour after Police Called to 'Assault' ; 42-Year-Old Had 'Minor Facial Injuries' Following Alleged Attack

A WOMAN found dead by police at a house had been seen by officers less than a hour earlier when they were called to an alleged assault.

Police had been sent to the property in Oldham Road, Failsworth, at 11.15pm on Saturday after receiving a 999 call which was then 'abandoned'. At the address, officers spoke with a 42-year-old woman who GMP describe as 'having had minor facial injuries.' .

A 57-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and taken into custody for questioning. Police then returned to the house within the hour to take a statement from the woman, but instead they tragically found her dead. Although confirmation is pending the results of a post-mortem, there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. An automatic referral has been made by police to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). …
