IT'S TIME! Martin's Cup Goal Finally Lands ? in Pittsburgh

Article excerpt

Paul Martin came to Pittsburgh to try to win a Stanley Cup.

His plan worked perfectly.

It just took a little longer than he expected.

Martin will be on San Jose's defense when the Sharks face the Penguins tonight at Consol Energy Center in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.

It will be his second visit to the building since he signed with San Jose as a free agent in July, following a five-year stint with the Penguins.

While there still isn't a spectacular corpuscle in his body, Martin continues to play the heady, steady game that has served him so well since he broke into the league with New Jersey. And which is the primary reason San Jose pursued him so vigorously after the 2014-15 season.

"Paul is a highly efficient player," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "The greatest compliment for a player is that he makes everyone around him better, and Paul does that, in spades."

Martin has five points, all assists, in 18 playoff games this spring. …
