Fair Lawn Schools Renew Superintendent Search

FAIR LAWN -- The search for a new superintendent for the borough's schools continues.

Although the Board of Education appointed Frank Ingargiola last month, it was subsequently announced that he had withdrawn his application for the position.

The board has opened a new search, according to board President Eugene Banta, who said at the May 19 meeting that "in the meantime, we will be looking into an interim" superintendent who can be in place by early July.

Banta said Ingargiola did not give a reason for not taking the job.

Superintendent of Schools Bruce Watson announced his retirement this year. He will retire at the end of July. The board appointed Ingargiola on April 28 as the superintendent effective Aug. 1 through June 30, 2020, at an annual salary of $167,500.

Banta said the board has not determined yet how it will go about selecting a new superintendent and whether it will go back to some of the previous candidates, seek new applications or a mixture of both. …
