Alex Rodriguez was benched for a second straight game by Joe Girardi, who cited A-Rod's career 0-for-14 against Toronto lefty starter J.A. Happ as a primary reason.

The manager chose to give Rob Refsnyder his second start in right field this season, while using Carlos Beltran as the designated hitter. Refsnyder (1-for-3) doubled in his first at-bat and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth.

A-Rod is just 1-for-16, with a home run, since coming off the disabled list (strained right hamstring) last Thursday. Overall, Rodriguez is batting .170 over his first 24 games, making his daily inclusion in the lineup an increasingly debatable option. "Obviously, production is important to stay in the lineup," Girardi said.

The manager would not commit to having Rodriguez in tonight's lineup against Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez. …
