1916 Britain Hit in Battle of Jutland

The Admiralty this evening publishes [June 2] the following official communique: During the afternoon of Wednesday, May 31, a naval battle was engaged off the coast of Jutland. The British warships which had to meet the shock consisted of battle cruisers and light cruisers, supported by four fast battleships. The losses were heavy among these ships. The battle-cruisers Queen Mary, Indefatigable and Invincible, and the cruisers Defence and Black Prince, were sunk. The Warrior was disabled, and, after having been towed for some time, had to be abandoned by her crew. …
