Mourinho Will Jettison the Deadwood, Claims Duff

JOSE Mourinho could sell eight United players during the summer transfer window, according to Damien Duff.

Duff worked with Mourinho for two years at Chelsea before he was sold to Newcastle in 2006 and saw the Portuguese gradually develop a title-winning squad in his image at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho sold just one Chelsea player in the 2004 summer window but the following year oversaw the departures of six first-team squad members in 2005-06 and Duff was one of six to leave the following season.

Duff expects Mourinho to intensify United's siege mentality - but is convinced he will also jettison several misfits.

"He'll do that, yeah (siege mentality)," Duff said at the launch of RTE's coverage of Euro 2016.

"But before he does that I guess there'll be five, six, seven or eight out, and he'll have to replace them with the same amount of players, which is going to cost an awful lot of money. …
