Ready or not, the race to determine who controls the Minnesota Legislature is on. Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file to run for the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives. In total, 436 candidates filed to run for the 201 seats in play in the 2016 election.

Not all contests are created equal, of course. There are seven incumbents -- DFL Sens. Ron Latz and Kari Dziedzic; DFL Reps. Michael Nelson, Diane Loeffler and Susan Allen; and GOP Reps. Paul Anderson and Dean Urdahl -- who can take the summer off from campaigning: nobody filed to run against them. But most races attracted a bit more attention, including 13 races that will require a Republican primary and 20 that will have a DFL primary.
