AREA ROUNDUP ; Sissonville's Haynes Wins Gatorade Softball Honor

Sissonville's Alexee Haynes has been named the Gatorade West Virginia Softball Player of the Year. The 5-foot-8 senior third baseman led the Indians (26-9) to the regional final this season, compiling a .612 batting average with seven home runs, 55 RBIs and 60 runs scored. The right-hander also posted an 8-2 pitching record with a 0.99 ERA, earning Kanawha Valley Player of the Year honors. She is also a three-time first-team all-state honoree and has signed to play softball at the University of Pittsburgh this fall.

Haynes has maintained a 4.36 GPA in the classroom and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics.
