THE RSPB is encouraging families to go wild this summer as a part of a new project aimed at encouraging us all to get closer to nature. We're urged to to go mini beast hunting, scooting about on scavenger hunts and many other wildlife-inspired activities at our local parks.

Ally Tough, RSPB Family Events Officer, said: "We're lucky because our parks are just teeming with amazing wildlife just waiting to be discovered.

"The summer is when nature comes alive and is the perfect time to get outside and explore the nature on our doorsteps. From bugs to butterflies, hedgehogs to house sparrows, getting into the parks gives families a great opportunity to learn about wildlife, see how they can give nature a home and have fun."

Only 10% of children now regularly play outside, compared with 40% in the 1970s, according to the RSPB. …
