Banged-Up Mets Answer the Challenge Once Again

Article excerpt

MIAMI - In the hour leading up to the Mets' 6-4 win over the Marlins on Saturday, manager Terry Collins learned Yoenis Cespedes would not be able to play due to a sore right hip, so he changed his lineup.

During the game, Collins discovered center fielder Juan Lagares couldn't grip a bat due to an injured thumb, so he pulled the outfielder.

"I'm not really concerned. This has happened to me like three other times. Happened to me in the off-season, happened to me in spring training and one other time before," Cespedes said through a translator. "I know it goes away after some rest."

Lagares' thumb issue arose after he made a catch with two on and two out that reversed momentum. …
