P HUBERT'S quite correct ('I remember striker too,' Viewpoints, June 3) in saying that David Herd never scored a hat-trick for Manchester United against Leicester City, although he did score two goals against them a couple of times in League matches, as well as the pair he got in the 1963 cup final.

I well remember the match where he broke his leg when scoring against Leicester City - it was towards the end of the season when the race for the title was quite tight and it looked as if that incident might have cost United their chance of winning it, but they prevailed in the end.

But if we're talking about Herd's hat-tricks, one that does bear a mention is the one he scored - in that same 1966-67 season - against Sunderland. In fact, he scored four goals in that game. …
