Germany's 'Metronome' Bastian Returns to Action

BASTIAN Schweinsteiger played his first competitive match since March as Germany beat Hungary.

The United midfielder played the final 25 minutes of the 2-0 friendly win after missing the final two months of the Reds 2015/16 campaign with a knee injury.

"To get 25-30 minutes is pretty good," Schweinsteiger said.

"I wasn't expecting to get 90 minutes in my first game back.

"But I have been able to do already more in the run-up to this European Championship than I managed two years ago prior to the World Cup."

The Germany captain's return is positive news for new United manager Jose Mourinho and international team-mate Jerome Boateng was also delighted.

"He's our captain and he's our metronome," Boateng said. …
