CORNERSTONE LAID

The cornerstone of the Merchant's Exchange Building at Third and Olive streets is laid. The building will be the site of the city's first Veiled Prophet's Ball and host site for the 1876 Democratic National Convention.

HEADS UP

The Wolves & Wine Auction on Saturday will benefit the Endangered Wolf Center. It will be held at Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers, 4739 McPherson Avenue, in the Central West End.

There will be a sampling of wines and food at several art galleries in the neighborhood including Duane Reed, Philip Slein and Projects + Galleries. A sidewalk festival at the galleries will begin with a pre-reception at 5 p.m., when guests can sample wines and food and become acquainted with the Endangered Wolf Center and meet Daisy, one of the fennec foxes living at the center. …
