Bogota Approves Levy That Increases Taxes

BOGOTA -- The Borough Council has approved a $9.37 million municipal budget that calls for a tax increase of about $85 for the owner of the average home.

The budget, which the council adopted unanimously last week, calls for a tax levy of about $7.7 million, up from $7.2 million last year. Property taxes will increase by about $85.50 for the owner of a property assessed at the borough average of $250,000, Councilman Thomas Napolitano said Monday.

Councilwoman Daniele Fede was absent from the meeting.

Before adopting the budget, the council amended it last month to account for additional revenue the borough is likely to bring in, reducing the anticipated tax levy by about $1,330. The additional revenue includes $65,000 in outside police administrative fees beyond what borough officials had anticipated. …
