Boy Fighting for His Life after Canal Plunge

A SCHOOLBOY who almost drowned in the Rochdale Canal remains in hospital fighting for his life. The 13-year-old was playing with friends in and around the water close to Boarshaw Clough Way, Middleton, on Sunday evening.

His friends desperately tried to help him and it is understood a member of the public dived into the canal and rescued him.

The teenager suffered from a cardiac arrest before being given CPR at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police said he remained in a critical condition yesterday.

Dozens of the teenager's friends have posted messages of support on social media sites to the youngster wishing him a speedy recovery.

Some are thought to have visited him in hospital.

It is understood the boy lives locally and has family in Middleton. …
