Bob Ford Honored for U.S. Open

Bob Ford didn't have many words, only tears, after he was honored by Pittsburgh City Council for being "the consummate club professional" during his 37 years at Oakmont Country Club.

Ford was given a proclamation in City Council chambers Tuesday that designates June 12-19 as "Bob Ford Week" to coincide with the U.S. Open that returns for a record ninth time at Oakmont.

"I'm kind of overwhelmed," Ford said. "To be honored by the city of Pittsburgh is pretty awesome."

Accustomed to receiving congratulations from his peers for winning another golf tournament, Ford stood in a jacket and tie and thanked the members of City Council for recognizing him and his club as they prepare for the 116th U.S. Open.

Ford, 62, is retiring in October from Oakmont but will continue to work during the winter months at Seminole Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla. …
