Bronx Man Held in Mahwah Linked to Shoplifting Ring

MAHWAH -- Police said they arrested a Bronx man who they suspect was part of a large shoplifting ring that stole more than $190,000 of merchandise from Home Depot stores.

Township Police Chief James Batelli said 46-year-old Keith E. Long was arrested Monday after officers pulled over his 2003 BMW 321I on Route 17 south.

When officers questioned Long during the traffic stop, they became suspicious of the answers he was giving and found that he had a fake registration, Batelli said in a news release.

Long was taken to Mahwah police headquarters, and officers obtained a warrant to search his vehicle, Batelli said.

They found "a large number" of merchandise return cards from Home Depot and other items that had been stolen from Home Depot stores outside New Jersey, police said. …
