Rutgers' ongoing quarterback competition gained a new contestant Wednesday when TCU graduate Zach Allen announced on Twitter that he is transferring to Rutgers.

Allen, formerly a highly touted recruit from Temple, Texas, threw only two passes in three seasons at TCU, including one year in which he redshirted.

The graduate transfer will be eligible to play immediately for the Scarlet Knights. He tweeted, "After a long process of decision making, I have decided that I want to play football at Rutgers! I'm excited to enroll and compete."

Allen, who graduated in only three years, is a dual-threat quarterback who threw for 2,175 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior in high school. He also rushed for 941 yards and nine touchdowns that season, and thus would seem to be a good fit for new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer's power spread attack. …
