Man Arrested in Connecton with Evasion from Traffic Stop, Car vs. House

Topeka Police announced one man is in custody after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation Saturday night and, police said, it fled before crashing into a house.

The officer observed the traffic violation at 8:57 p.m. at S.E. 29th Street and Ohio Ave., Topeka police Lt. Andrew Beightel said in a news release.

The officer signaled the Chevrolet Cruze to stop, but the vehicle didn't yield, according to the news release.

The officer made the decision, Beightel said, to not pursue the vehicle because the encounter happened in a residential area.

The officer reportedly observed the vehicle continue to flee into the uncontrolled intersection of S.E. 30th Street and Kentucky Ave.

The Chevrolet Cruze struck another vehicle in the middle of the intersection before crashing into a house on its northeast corner. …
