Closter Pto Says It Will Give $100,000 to Schools for 2016-17

CLOSTER -- The local Parent-Teacher Organization will donate $100,000 to the public schools for the 2016-17 school year, according to the Board of Education.

The donated money will be divided up equally between Hillside elementary and Tenakill middle schools, said PTO co-president Kristin Schwartz. Principals and teachers will come up with items and lists of what will be needed that is outside the realm of what they can usually cover.

"We call it our wish list," Schwartz said. "So each school puts together a wish list, and last year it really comprised mostly of STEM programming and equipment."

The school board announced the donation at its May 26 meeting, culminating what Schwartz said was an especially successful effort by her organization. …
