MIDLAND PARK -- Borough Councilman Jack Considine, defeated in his primary bid Tuesday to secure the GOP nod to run for reelection, has resigned his seat.

"In the election this past week there was overwhelming support for Jerry Iannone, and given how things work in this town, I will step down tonight," Considine told the Borough Council at its regular meeting on Thursday. "We can get Jerry in place now so he can attend meetings before November. He can find out what he needs to do for his position in the next three years."

But Borough Attorney Robert T. Regan said the town's 10 elected Republican County Committee members have to submit the names of three candidates to fill Considine's seat to the council within 15 days.

The council has 30 days to name Considine's replacement. …
