Bloomingdale Steps Up Policing of Tilcon Property

BLOOMINGDALE -- The Police Department and Tilcon New Jersey are joining forces to keep people off the Federal Hill tract after reports of vandalism and trespassing.

Police Chief Joseph Borell has said activity at the 265-acre Tilcon property and the adjacent 180-acre Meer Tract purchased by Finbar, an affiliate of Tilcon, has raised concern about public safety and liability. Borell has said problems at the site ebb and flow, with illegal activity escalating now that the weather is warm.

Some of the problems stem from people riding recreational all- terrain vehicles, the chief said. Trespassers have cut fencing to get into the site. Vandals have damaged Tilcon's parked vehicles and equipment.

There also are concerns about illegal dumping, particularly in the Brandt Lane area, and vagrants living on the site, Borell said. …
