Wigan to Rest Tomkins for Their Trip to Widnes

SAM Tomkins will not be part of the Wigan Warriors squad that takes on Widnes Vikings tomorrow evening.

After sitting out almost four months of his first season back at the DW Stadium after two years in the NRL, Tomkins has played in the last five Super League matches, but is not being risked on the artificial i-pitch surface at Widnes.

This comes after the former Man of Steel's late match-winning try at Hull KR on Friday, which levelled the scores with a minute remaining and allowed Matty Smith to kick the matchwinning conversion. "Sam had a bit of swelling after the Hull KR game, so he won't play this week," explained Warriors coach Shaun Wane. "It's just a precaution, but we won't take any risks with him."

There is better news when it comes to Dan Sarginson, who was a late injury withdrawal from the Hull KR fixture. …
