Crew Meets Its Match | Their 8-Man Boat Finished 3rd in Premier Event at National Championships

ROWING US YOUTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The rowers on board the Sarasota Crew's top eight-man boat finally met their match Saturday at the USRowing Youth National Championships.

After racing to wins at the state and region championships at Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park earlier this season, the Crew's best bunch finished third in the sport's premier event on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.

Jeremy Lipford, William Michel, Emmet Homeister, Clark Dean, Andrew LeRoux, Zachary Skypeck, Loren Bremer, Aidan Norder and coxswain Sydney Edwards covered the windy 1500-meter course in 5:57.342, more than six seconds behind the Oakland Strokes in first place and runner-up Marin Junior Rowing.

The same group won their national semifinal race earlier on Saturday, as well as their heat race on Friday. …
